Best Tips to a Great Headshot #5 Act!

Best Tips to a Great Headshot. Act!

This is the final video in my 5 part series, Best Tips to a Great Headshot. OK, you have selected the photographer. Determined your actor “type.“Hired the makeup artist. Your wardrobe is approved to match your character types and you have practiced your Photo Posing.

You are ready to go. What is your goal? Of oourse you want the best headshots to represent who you are and what type of character you can play.

The final tip to a great headshot is to use your acting skills.  Yes I know this sounds obvious, yet sometimes we actors get nervous and self-conscious and forget.

To release nervousness

Many actors do not like to have their headshots taken. They feel the pressure to get the best head shots that will make them stand out. So many actors will be so preoccupied while at the shoot they don’t relax. The key to letting all your worry go, is to just ACT. Yes, just let go and use your acting skills to have fun.

Breathe

You will be amazed when you remember to take a relaxng breath, click the link to view my youtube video) on how to take that relaxing breathe.

Tell a story in your mind

Pretend the camera is a person you are really relating too. Like someone you have always wanted to meet. Engage with the camera lens. connect and tell the camera lens (that person) a story behind your eyes. Access you emotions like an actor does, so you will express those feelings through the lens. Use your imagination. Have strong images in your head. For instance, to express happiness, you may think of a person, place or thing that makes you very happy. To look sad think of an unfortunate personal story that you experienced. Make your stories as personal to you as you can.

Just you and the photographer

If a parent has brought you to the shoot or you have invited a friend, keep them out of your eye sight. You want to feel relaxed and not have to feel like you need to impress your parent or friend. Or become distracted by them.  Parents, your child does better when he alone is working directly with the photographer. Let the photographer help photo pose.
