How to Slate for the Camera

Hello I’m Natasha and today, we’re going to talk about how to slate for the camera and what makes a fantastic slate.

Now, a slate for the camera is where you introduce yourself. This is what the casting directors, and directors see first when your audition starts. So it is important that you make a great first impression. It’s saying your name and if you are a minor your age. If you’re over 18, and look younger, you can say that you’re over 18. And if you look much older than 18 you don’t say your age.

The process is to come into the room, stand on your mark, with great posture and look directly into the camera lens. Then say your first and last name and age (if instructed).

Make sure that you say it slowly and clearly. It’s really important that they hear your name accurately. Be loud and proud, so when they love your audition, they know who to callback.

Now you know how to stand, and say your name. Now, let’s take a look at some of our fantastic students here at 3-2-1 Acting School. They will show you how to slate for the camera with personality!

– Hi, my name is Jessica Summer, and I’m 16 years old.

– Hi, my name is Darren Peng, and I’m 12 years old.

– Hi, my name is Wiley Romero, and I’m 10 years old.

– Hi, my name is Michael Taylor, and I’m 5 years old.

– Hi, my name is Sanai Victoria, and I’m 7 years old

As you can see, our wonderful students are trained by our expert instructors to perform a great slate for the camera.

They also spoke loudly and clearly and showed their winning personality. You can even take a pause between your first name and last name. If you’re like me and have multiple syllables in your name, Na-Ta-Sha, make sure you really pronounce every one of those syllables.

You want to be seen, heard and loved! Keep your hair out of your face. Boys, if you have longer hair, make sure it doesn’t cover your eyes. It’s very important.

And, of course, most of all, smile and have fun. When you have fun and love what you’re doing, all who are in the audition room do too! That’s a real plus.
