How Commercial Child Actors Hold Products VIDEO
Part of being a professional actor is learning how to deal with props. Especially in commercial auditions, it’s important to know exactly how to handle a product. However, it is much easier said than done. You would be surprised to find how the slightest of hesitation can throw off the most seasoned of actors. Second guessing yourself during an audition only leads others to do the same.
So, at our acting school, we help each student get comfortable with this skill. Working with anything from toothpaste to sidewalk chalk, each product requires special attention. Like with most things, becoming a pro at handling products for commercials requires practice. And, you know what they say…practice makes perfect.
What should I know?
First, the good news: you will be directed. Listen closely to the director when it comes to the details. Remember, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Next, you must remember to keep the logo visible to the camera. In commercials, this is the most important thing. What’s the point of a coke commercial where you never see the trademark logo? Then, try this: when you are watching a commercial on TV, count how many times you see the logo. Keeping it even with your face and in frame is a great way to keep the the product you’re selling the star of the show.
So, after making sure the logo is visible, the next step is to establish a relationship with the product you are selling. It might sound funny, but treat the product with affection, like a best friend. That positive personal connection is what makes people buy a particular product. All in all, the look of satisfaction on an actors face after biting into a taco or hamburger is the special sauce that gets people off the couch and on the way to purchase the product.
